How it works:

The submission period for our 2020 "Play-Demic" short play festival runs August 10, 2020 through September 18, 2020. 

TIMELINE:

  • Submission deadline: Must be received by end of day 9/18/2020.
  • Evaluation period: 9/18-9/30/2020
  • Authors notified and selections announced: By 9/30/2020
  • Selection of director(s) and casts: By 10/5/2020
  • Rehearsal period: 10/5-10/9/2020
  • Recording dates: 10/9-10/16/2020
  • On demand viewing: 10/23-10/25/2020

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

1. Submissions must be original, unpublished, unproduced short plays with pandemic era relevance. Authors should write for an adult audience but characters of all ages are welcome. Comedy and drama, both musical and non-musical will be considered. Musical submissions must include sheet music/score as needed. Legal clearance of materials not in the public domain is the full responsibility of the submitting playwright. 

2. Sets, lighting needs and other technical requirements must be minimal. Since the winning plays will be produced for cameras, no play considered technically un-producible will be considered. 

4. Maximum number of characters per play is three. 

5. Running time is to be 5-15 minutes or less. Authors are responsible for submitting work that is within the running time limit. Cuts will be requested of the playwright for any selected play which runs over the limit regardless of the number of pages in the script. 

6. Plays must be submitted by email as a PDF file and must use standard script formatting. Please include page numbers.

7. Please no more than two script submissions per author. 

8. A group of plays will be selected by the Artistic Director to create a program running 75-90 minutes. These plays will then be rehearsed and performed for the camera and edited into a LPP Video Theatre presentation. 

9. Since we are struggling to survive the pandemic we cannot offer any author stipends but will provide each selected writer a digital copy of the performance of their play.

WAIVERS AND CONDITIONS:

  • The selection of directors, actors and designers for the selected plays is at the sole discretion of Lucky Penny Productions. An author may participate in the process if participation is requested by the producing companies or the director selected for the project.
  • Entry of a script into this festival grants to Lucky Penny Productions  the right to produce the entered play only for this specific event in October 2020 and authors retain all rights to their work for future production or publication.
  • The producing company reserves the right to remove and/or replace any play if, once in rehearsal, the play is found to be unproduceable as determined by the Artitic Director. Selection of a replacement play is at the sole discretion of the producing company.
  • The producing company reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the festival at their discretion if conditions beyond their control require it. 
  • Authors, if their play is selected for production, grant to Lucky Penny Productions the right to use their name, biographical information and photo for purposes of publicity and marketing during the period Sept 30, 2020 through the performances dates. 
  • Submission of a script to this competition signifies the acceptance of these waivers and conditions.
